What the Quran says about Jinns

I have my own Quran and rest assured, as I read Ann Druffel's book, I was looking up anything about Jinns in my Quran's index.

The Quran (often spelled Koran), the Holy Book of Islam, and related culture has a large amount of material on Jinns. It appears that Islam is the ultimate authority on who the Jinns are (in fact, "Jinn" is their term; it's an Arabic word).

According to Islam, three orders of self-aware (consciousness containing) creation has this universe; in ascending order of vibrational frequency or energy level:
  1. Humans - made of clay
  2. Jinns - made from fire without smoke (or elemental fire)
  3. Angels - made from light
According to some teachings, all three types have the freedom to do God's (Allah's) will or do their own thing. Satan is an example of a Jinn (or, an Angel? Christians say Satan is a "fallen" angel while Muslims and spiritualists and those who study metaphysics say Satan could NOT be an angel. Why would an angel, from their high position of knowing, turn negative? It makes no sense. (And some say an angel can't turn negative because they are not given complete autonomy as other souls are.)
Muslims, Spiritualists and those who study metaphysics - VS - Christians; looks like a three-to-one vote. I'll go with Satan being a Jinn (if there really is one).)... So anyway, Satan is an example of a Jinn who is doing his own thing.

Islam includes Jinns as being subject to the teachings of Islam, just like humans. In fact, Jinns often gathered around Prophet Mohammed whenever he recited Quran. He may or may not have known of their presence. Most Jinns are nice and cause no trouble. But just like us human types, Jinns have some "bad apples". Individual Jinns or "gangs" of them that do their own thing and cause trouble are just like human individuals or gangs that cause trouble. Probably, most "bad" Jinns only effect other Jinns just like most bad humans only effect other humans.

But some bad humans delight in harassing or torturing lower animals. They do it because they have that torturing nature and think they can get away with it.
Tieing cans on dog's or cat's tails, shooting B-B-guns at birds, swinging mice around by the tail with a string are just some of the bad things done to animals by humans sometimes. In my town (in Florida), news turned up of some bad boys that impaled a turtle with a shish kabob skewer just to watch it scream. They were arrested for cruelty to animals.

When myself was a boy of six to seven, I pulled the wings off Japanese beetles so they could not fly. Thank goodness I grew out of that. Any of these bad beings can turn back to the way of Allah anytime they want. That goes for humans, Jinns and Angels. It is said even Satan would be forgiven if only he would turn back toward Allah.

In a like manner, some bad Jinns delight in harassing humans because they think they can get away with it.
[It would be interesting to ponder though, if caught, what punishment do those Jinns face at the hands of law-abiding Jinns... hmm...]

Anyway, to some Jinns, we humans must appear as some "lower form" of life, heavy, dense, made of dirt basically, so not deserving of consideration. And, Jinns do have some abilities we do not... at least, not as long as we are incased; or shall I say, entombed, in a vessel of flesh...

Now we come to experienced out of body projectors again. Remember how, after a time, they (Robert Monroe, William Buhlman, Robert Peterson and others) found out they could modify the shape of their "second-body"? They can stretch their arms, they can become shorter, thinner, and even resemble animals. And of course all out-of-body projectors can pass through walls and ceilings.

Jinns, existing probably in that energy vibration level just above the physical (one of many energy-levels discovered by Out-Of-Body-Researchers William Buhlman, Robert Monroe and others) can shape-change too, only much better!

If William Buhlman and others out of body can learn limited shape changing in a few hundred experiences out of body lasting maybe twenty minutes or less each, think how every Jinn must be "expert" at the "art" of shape changing! They are continuously in that environment! And no telling how many years old the average Jinn is. Their bodies of energy probably do not age and decay, at least not nearly so fast, as our bodies "of clay". Jinns perhaps live hundreds even thousands of years. (This may explain why Jinn harassment seems to follow the same family over a number of generations as pointed out by Ann Druffel.)

Jinns have the following abilities then: They can pass through solid objects, change their shape to anything and can "lower their vibrational frequency" (remember, out of body projectors can too, but just not that well) at will in order to appear or "materialize" enabling us to see them even when we are fully awake.
[Interesting to ponder as well, shape changing perhaps is an art within Jinn society. Beauty, balance, aesthetics and originality would probably be the goals of shape-changing "art"!]

Now for some actual verses from the Quran about this...

This Quran is translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali and published by Sh. Muhammad Ashraf. I want to present now, first an extensive commentary about Jinns by Abdullah Yusuf Ali and then actual verses from that Quran...

The following commentary by Abdullah Yusuf Ali:
Jinns: who are they? In Surah 18:50 we are told that Iblis was one of the Jinns, and it is suggested that was why he disobeyed the Command of Allah. But in that passage and other similar passages, we are told that Allah commanded the Angels to bow down to Adam, and they obeyed except Iblis. That implies that Iblis had been of the company of Angels. In many passages Jinns and men are spoken of together. In Surah 55:14-15, humans are stated to have been created from clay, while Jinns from a flame of fire. The root meaning of junna, yujannu, is "to be covered or hidden", and janna yajunnu, in the active voice, "to cover or hide", as in Surah 6:76. Some people say that Jinn therefore means the hidden qualities or capacities in man; others that it means wild or jungle folk hidden in the hills or forests. I do not wish to be dogmatic, but I think, from a collation and study of the Quranic passages, that the meaning is simply "a spirit", or an invisible or hidden force. In folklore stories and romances like the Arabian Nights they become personified into fantastic forms, but with them we are not concerned here. Both the Quran and the Hadith describe the Jinn as a definite species of living beings. They are created out of fire and are like humans, may believe or disbelieve, accept or reject guidance. The authoritative Islamic texts show that they are not merely a hidden force, or a spirit. They are personalized beings who enjoy a certain amount of free will and thus will be called to account.
And now, some pertinent versus...

Surah 6:100
Yet they make the Jinns equals with Allah, though Allah did create the Jinns;
And they falsely, having no knowledge, attribute to Him Sons and Daughters.
Praise and glory be to Him! For He is above what they attribute to Him!
The above criticizes people who think Jinns are like Allah and that Allah has sons and daughters.
Indeed, due to the deceitful nature of the mischievous types of Jinns, one of their tricks is to make humans think Jinns are somehow God-like and perhaps get worshiped. Again and again the Quran stresses, there is only ONE ALLAH!
Those of you getting abducted pay special attention to this. What they are doing to you is obviously wrong in the eyes of Allah (or if you prefer, God). You have no cause what so ever to respect them.

And now this:
Surah 46:29 to 31
29: Behold, We turned towards you a company of Jinns quietly listening to the Quran: When they stood in the presence thereof, they said, "Listen in silence!" When the reading was finished, they returned to their people, to warn them of their sins.
30: They said, "Oh our people! We have heard a Book revealed after Moses confirming what came before it: it guides to the Truth and to a Straight Path.
31: Oh our people, hearken to the one who invites to Allah, and believe in Him: He will forgive you your faults and deliver you from a penalty grievous.
Here we have Jinns actually listening to a reading of Quran by Prophet Muhammad. They basically went and told their people (other Jinns) about it. So Jinns are subject to the teachings of Quran as are Humans. And they will be held accountable for their actions just like Humans. I would conclude from this, the abducting Jinns (posing as aliens) are in trouble with Allah unless they change their ways!

Surah 55:14 and 15
14: Allah created man from sounding clay like unto pottery,
15: and Allah created Jinns from fire free of smoke.
So there's the part about Jinns being of fire (an energy or higher vibrational frequency) and man being made of clay (the minerals of the earth).

So there you go with just a small sampling. I will add to this page bit by bit over time as I run into other things about Jinns in the Quran myself.
